What are Backlinks?

What are Backlinks?

In search engine optimization (SEO), backlinks refer to hyper-links pointing to a particular Web page. Backlinks are important to SEO, because Google considers the quality and quantity of backlinks to determine PageRank.

Why Backlinks are Important?

·         Backlinks or Inbound Links (IBL’s) are links that are directed towards your website and are the building blocks to good Search Engine Optimization.
·        The number of backlinks a website has is in a good indicator of its popularity or importance with search engines.
·        The content of the websites you have inbound links with needs to be relevant to the content on your site.
·        By having quality backlinks you are attracting visitors to your site.
·         Backlinks should be priority in your Search Engine Optimization because of their importance.

How to Get Backlinks?

You already know that the only way to move your site to the top of Google is to build high quality backlinks (and lots of them).  You can build backlinks by your off page activites.
  • Avoid site wide link from footer (WordPress themes or plugins)
  • Avoid buying exact anchor text link
  • Avoid buying bulk links from sites like Fiverr
  • Don’t opt for link networks (Build my rank was one of such private link network, which got penalized)
  • Avoid BlogRoll links
  • Article directory links are not that effective anymore
